The CHARIS Rooms

The CHARIS Rooms is the epicentre of our organisation. Not only is it our headquarters, but also Taunton’s Welcome Hub for refugees and asylum seekers and a space for a number of other regular activities, listed on the timetable below.

Taunton Welcome Hub

The Welcome Hub is one of six across Somerset run by local organisations in association with Somerset Council and Thrive that assist and empower refugees and asylum seekers, provide services and access both statutory and community services in their local communities.

 

Taunton Welcome Hub provides:

  • A welcome area and information point.

  • A safe space to chat with tea or coffee.

  • ESOL classes (contact us to book ESOL classes here.)

  • Signposting to relevant local services, organisations, statutory bodies, events and activities.

  • Working with the job centre to provide access support and guidance on benefits.

  • Helping people prepare a CV and look for employment or voluntary opportunities.

  • Art and craft classes.

  • Help with budgeting, setting up a bank account and understanding how financial systems work in the UK.

  • Working with the NHS and other health providers to improve physical and mental wellbeing.

  • Providing support to sponsors and communities with their guests and all displaced people.

  • Enabling all displaced people to access local statutory and community services.
