CHARIS takes its responsibilities seriously and is committed to the duty of care to safeguard all children and adults at risk who have been resettled in Taunton, and in areas of Devon, Dorset and Cornwall as part of the Community Sponsorship programme for resettlement of Syrian refugees. CHARIS also has a duty of care to all refugees (Ukrainian and others) and asylum seekers when visiting the CHARIS Rooms in Taunton and liaises with management at the Holiday Inn Express in North Petherton who have responsibility for asylum seekers there.

CHARIS will, so far as is reasonably practicable, ensure that all refugee/asylum seeker children and adults at risk, for whom it is responsible, are protected through appropriate procedures and safe working practices, based on recognised good practice. Accordingly, CHARIS will work with the Local Authorities (Somerset Council, Devon County Council, Dorset Council and Cornwall Council), the management at the Holiday Inn and all appropriate agencies to ensure that, in carrying out its charitable works, it operates good practices with regard to safeguarding policies and procedures.
